My Teenage Self Would Love This Book

Who doesn’t like to tap into their high school nostalgia by reading books in the Young Adult genre? When I got word that Teresa Toten had written a new book, I bumped it up to the top of my reading pile, as I’ve been a fan of hers for quite some time. Her new book, The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B is unlike any book I’ve ever read before because it tackles obsessive-compulsive disorder. I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve yet to read a book about this topic. I’ve claimed to people before that I have OCD tendencies, because I have to go back to make sure my hair straightner is turned off (knowing that I actually did do it). After reading this book, I’ll never use that expression again, because as Teresa explores in The Unlikely Hero of Room 13B the disorder is so much more than second guessing yourself!

Teresa’s always had the ability to take a topical issue and infuse it with a plot that has a hook, but she’s outdone herself with this book! You’ll be introduced to a young boy named Adam. Adam’s a part of an obsessive-compulsive support group with other teens struggling with the disorder. This is where he meets the beautiful and stunning Robin who he’s drawn to instantly. As the description on our catalog page explains, “He’s determined to protect and defend her–to play Batman to her Robyn–whatever the cost. But when you’re fourteen and the everyday problems of dealing with divorced parents and step-siblings are supplemented by the challenges of OCD, it’s hard to imagine yourself falling in love.”

If you’re a teen, you’ll love this book.

If you’re an adult, you’ll love this book.

This is a book that takes you down memory lane, but teaches you something at the same time. It’s a wonderful read and I encourage each and every one of you to pick it up!
